MLSS Charity Bus Celebration at Leamington Spa
As always, Midland Langar Seva Society’s aim is to help the homeless and underprivileged by providing food and support. Regardless of background. Belief, race, religion, age, MLSS serve humanity as one. No-one deserves to be alone, and we’re here to offer the help and support to those who would otherwise go without.
Every day more and more people become homeless and therefore vulnerable to violence, hunger, severe weather and more. This is why we’re here.
What Was the Celebration?
On Sunday the 5th of January 2020, to honour and celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Gurpurab (birth anniversary), Leamington Spa and Warwick Gurdwara Sikh Development group collaborated with Midland Langar Seva Society. In doing so, they provided free hot drinks, vegetarian samosas and snacks to the community on the MLSS bus.
The MLSS bus is equipped with many cooking facilities that make it possible to provide for people all over; a microwave, gas stove, washing up facilities and a cooking area. Not only that, but there are black covered sears and television sets. These are complimented by special lighting.
Thanks to all of your support, we’ve been able to create a relaxing atmosphere for the homeless community, giving them the opportunity to relax and enjoy their time.
Overview of the Day.
The day was very successful, many, many people joined in and shared the celebration. We are astounded by the help and support we get every day, no matter what it is. It allows help and care get to the people who need it most, and creates real change.
Here are some words said by the team after the celebration:
Karen Gill (MLSS Co-ordinator with Leamington Spa) said ‘We were completely overwhelmed by the donations and the volunteer support; it was great to see the community come together for this celebration’.
Councillor Mini Mangat (WDC) said ‘It was great to be part of such a vibrant volunteering team, and it was inspiring to see younger volunteers from Leamington Khalsa Football Club supporting the celebration.
Charandeep Singh from MLSS said ‘The charity is to help anyone in need, by offering conversation, hot food and drink, and the bus offers all of this in comfort’.
Sukhraj Sanghera (MLSS Co-ordinator) said ‘Thank you to everyone who donated and supported us today, we raised £600. Some of that will cover the costs of the bus, but the rest will be used to support future MLSS projects in Leamington’.
Again, we couldn’t do any of this without your support! Thank you to all.
*MLSS Leamington support other local charities (Helping hands, Winter Shelter) with food donations.
